Protecting Your Banner
Making Your Banners Stronger
The biggest threat to banners is wind. Banners act as large sails in the wind and we always recommend taking them down in winds in-excess of 30mph.
However, we do provide some options to help protect your banners against damage. Please be aware that these are only recommended and are not guaranteed to prevent damage to your banner, only to help increase it's tolerance.
Bungee Ties/Toggles £14.00 (inc VAT) for a pack of 10
Attaching your banner with elasticated ties protect your banners immeasurably better than using cable ties. If the banner was to catch the wind, bungee ties take the strain of the force generated by the wind. Without these it would be the banner that takes the strain, which, with sufficient wind, will tear the banner.
Double-Reinforced Hems £3.75 (inc VAT) per linear metre
This is the banner equivalent of a seat-belt-type material sewn or welded into the hems to provided extra tensile strength to the edge of the banner, which is the banner's weakest point. Double hem-reinforcement is probably the most popular type of banner strengthening we have available and is common for many of the banners we produce for the exposed parts of Scotland.
Triple-Stitched Pole Pockets FREE
For banners with pole pockets we can triple-stitch the pole pocket to increase the strength of the join. This is currently offered free of charge as a special request only. This is not a standard finish due to the amount of stitching going through the banner artwork.
From a design point-of-view it is best to keep text away from this area as it may be interferred with by the stiching.
Wind-Slits £18 (inc VAT) per banner
Wind-slits are semi-circular cuts made in the banner which allow the wind to pass through, reducing the amount of pressure that the wind places on the banner. This is particularly useful when the banner is out in the open.
The number of wind-slits can vary from banner to banner, so please let us know if you have any special requirements for these.
Using Mesh Instead of PVC
Mesh is a great substitute for PVC if a banner is in an exposed location. The fine holes dramatically reduce the amount of pressure placed on the banner. Mesh works better when the banners are placed over a solid-colour background.
Please Note: This is not a suitable replacement for every application but please call us if you are unsure.
